Handling unsold copies that are returned by retailers is part of a press wholesaler's business. These returns have to be counted for the purpose of determining the sales figures and crediting the retailer.
All returned items should be identified, counted and pre-sorted by a single system.
At a conveyor speed of 1.2 meters per second, the system has less than half a second per item for the identification. Any articles that are not identified automatically, the so-called NoReads, should be able to be identified by qualified personnel without affecting the regular operation as well as without any need to physically handle these items.
The copies are optically identified and sorted on the Returns Lines. NoReads are processed manually at separate Post-Processing PCs. The goods do not need to be physically present any more. The results of the remission are transferred to the data warehouse system by the Central Server.
The introduction of the AXON Returns System minimizes the time required for returns handling. The improvement in data quality leads to a significantly reduced number of customer complaints. The introduction of non-physical handling of NoReads reduces the space needed for the entire process.
